A meteor, popularly called a "shooting star" is a phenomenon in the atmosphere that is created by the passage of small cosmic debris. The speed at which the meteor flies is somewhere in between 10-70 km/s, most of them will burn and evaporate. Those that do not break up and hit the ground are called meteorites. The orange bands resembling clouds are in fact Airglow - atmospheric light radiation that causes the night sky to never be completely black.
